The 27th Annual Conference of the Institute of Certified Secretaries (ICS) was held from August 16 to 18, 2023 at Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort and Spa. It was a prestigious event that brought together professionals and experts from various fields to discuss the vital topic of ESG for a sustainable future.
The Institute was proud to host this conference themed “Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) for a Sustainable Future: Aligning People, Planet, and Profit.” Focusing on the importance of ESG in driving sustainability and profitability and its implications for organizations.
The Keynote Speaker was H.E. Dr. Musalia Mudavadi, E.G.H, Prime Cabinet Secretary of the Republic of Kenya with CS Mercy Wanjau, Secretary to the Cabinet of the Republic of Kenya, and Bishop Dr. David Oginde, Chairperson EACC.
Our esteemed speakers and panelists delved into a range of topics, including ESG reporting standards and frameworks, integrating ESG into global value chains, aligning ESG with business strategy, and advancing equity and inclusion through ESG.
ESG practices have become increasingly important in today’s business landscape. Not only are they cost-effective, but they also have the potential to drive profitability in the long run. By implementing sustainable measures, companies can reduce energy consumption, waste generation, and operational inefficiencies, leading to substantial cost savings.
One of the key sessions focused on the opportunities and challenges of ESG in the public sector. We believe that good governance practices play a pivotal role in environmental stewardship and the successful integration of ESG principles into public organizations. By examining the intersection of ethics and ESG, we aimed to foster a deep understanding of the ethical implications of ESG practices.
Furthermore, businesses that prioritize ESG factors tend to attract ethical investors and gain a competitive advantage. The integration of ESG principles not only enhances employee well-being but also protects the environment, creating a positive impact on society as a whole.
Achieving sustainability requires collaboration and partnerships among businesses, governments, and civil society. By leveraging each other’s strengths and resources, we can address complex challenges more effectively and drive meaningful change.
This conference served as a platform for professionals to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices in ESG. It was an opportunity to learn from experts, engage in insightful discussions, and foster collaborations that will shape the future of sustainable business practices.
Together, let us prioritize ESG principles, enhance employee well-being, protect the environment and drive long-term profitability.
